This situation is actually common to almost every car on the market. But why is that? Surely, car manufacturers can make their speeds accurate to the exact km \/ h or mph you travel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-how-a-car-speedometer-works\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #339966;\">How does a car speedometer work?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Speed is a measurement of distance over time. But car mileage doesn't really measure how fast you travel from point A to point B. Car speeds usually work by measuring the rotation of the car's drive shaft, axle or wheel. They then use basic mathematical formulas to extrapolate this rotation and determine how fast you are traveling. This is a very similar concept to a bicycle speedometer.<\/p>\n<p>However, if the wheel \/ tire diameter changes, the extrapolation calculation will be incorrect. For example, the diameter will increase if you put new tires on the car (more tread that wears over thousands of miles) or increase the tire pressure. The accuracy of GPS navigation or the application is determined by the strength of the satellite signal and is not affected by the tires of your car or other vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Many navigation devices are not able to detect changes in the vertical direction, so they may be less accurate if you are traveling up or down a steep hill.
